Water alkalinity test procedure to measure total alkalinity.
METHOD :- Titrimetric method.
REAGENTS :- 1) 0.02 N H2SO4 Solution :- 200ml of 1N Sulphuric Acid diluted to 1000ml.
2)Methyl orange or Bromocresol Green indicator.
PROCEDURE:-
Take 50ml sample + 0.1 ml or 2 drops of methyl orange indicator => Titrate with 0.02 N H2SO4. End point is yellow to orange. OR
Take 50ml sample + 8 to 10 drops of bromocresol green indicator => Titrate with 0.02 N H2SO4. End point is blue to yellow.
STANDARDISATION:-
1.060 gm of sodium carbonate diluted to 1000ml with distilled water,10ml of above solution titrate with 0.02N H2SO4.
End Point : Yellow to Orange or Blue to yellow depends on indicator used.
Total Alkalinity as CaCO3mg/L = -------------------------------
